niamhcooperParticipantDiscovery 5 brake pad replacement finally done and it was way less painful than I expected
Just wanted to share a bit of a win because I know these threads are usually just us Land Rover owners collectively mourning our bank accounts but I actually had a surprisingly decent experience getting the rear pads and sensors done on my 2018 Discovery HSE last week at a place in Al Quoz that was recommended by a fellow owner in the UAE Land Rover Club WhatsApp group. I was dreading the whole thing because the last time I took it to a general garage they didn’t have the proper diagnostic tool to retract the electronic parking brake and they ended up messing around with it for two hours before admitting defeat and I had to limp it to the dealer anyway with the EPB fault light glaring at me the whole way. These new guys were actual Land Rover brake pad change specialists Dubai and they had the JLR SDD software ready to go and the mechanic even knew to clean and lube the caliper pins with that specific high temp grease that doesn’t dry out and seize up after one summer in the UAE heat. They used the genuine TRW pads with the integrated wear sensors and the pedal feels firm and linear now with none of that spongy dead travel I’d just learned to live with, and the best part is I’m not leaving a cloud of brake dust on my driveway every time I pull in. It’s such a small thing but finding someone who actually knows these trucks and doesn’t treat them like a generic SUV makes all the difference.
